How to: Configure Your Brand Settings

Learn how to set your school’s brand settings in August to create a consistent, school-branded experience across emails and portals.

Updated this week

Your August instance can be customized to reflect your school or organization’s brand. By setting your instance name, brand color, and portal images, you create a consistent and recognizable experience for faculty and families when they log in.

Branding your portal helps reinforce trust and familiarity. When parents and staff see your school’s colors and logo in the portal, it feels like a seamless extension of your school’s digital ecosystem rather than a separate tool.

This article and the video below will walk you through how to update your Instance Settings and Brand Settings so your portals reflect your organization’s identity.

Where to Find Brand Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings.

  2. Select Instance Settings.

  3. Open Brand Settings.

Here, you’ll find several customization options that control how your Faculty and Parent Portal appear.

Customization Options

Instance Name

The Instance Name is the title displayed at the top of the portal for both faculty and parents.

This typically reflects your school or organization’s name and helps users confirm they are logged into the correct portal.

Brand Color

Your Brand Color sets the primary color used across the portal interface.

To change it:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Instance settings in August

  2. Click into Brand settings

  3. Choose your brand color using one of the following options:

    • Color picker: Select a color visually

    • Hex code entry: Toggle to enter a specific hex code, often provided by marketing or communications teams

  4. Click Save

This color will appear across key interface elements in the portal.

Tips & best practices

  • Choose a slightly darker color: In some areas, white text is displayed on top of your brand color. Darker shades help ensure text remains readable and accessible for families.

  • Use official brand colors when possible: If your school or district has established branding guidelines, entering the exact hex code ensures consistency with your website and other materials.

  • Preview with families in mind: Consider how the color will look across emails and portals to make sure it feels welcoming and easy to read.

Cover Image

The Cover Image is displayed when parents first log into the portal.

To upload a cover image:

  1. Click the Cover Image upload option.

  2. Select the image file you want to use.

Best practice:
Use an image with a transparent background for optimal visibility and branding consistency.

Monogram Logo

The Monogram Logo appears in the upper-left corner of the portal, replacing the default August logo.

Because this logo appears in a small space, it’s important to choose the right type of image.

Recommended guidelines:

  • Use a simple block logo

  • Avoid small text or intricate details

  • Ensure the logo is easily recognizable at a small size

The platform will automatically resize the logo to fit the monogram space.

Saving Your Changes

Once you’ve configured your settings:

  1. Click Save.

  2. Refresh the page.

After refreshing, your portal will update to reflect the new branding.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use high-resolution images so they remain clear when resized.

  • Keep monogram logos simple to ensure readability in the small header area.

  • Match your hex code to official school brand guidelines for consistency across platforms.
