Learn how to use the new Messages tab to view and manage all message threads and alerts in one centralized inbox, respond to conversations, and start new messages with colleagues.

Updated this week

Messages tab overview

Think of the Messages tab as your August inbox, a single view where you can manage conversations, respond quickly, and access related records without jumping between pages.

Why this matters

The Messages tab helps you:

  • 📥 View all message threads in one centralized location

  • 🔔 See important alerts alongside your conversations

  • ✉️ Start new conversations not tied to a specific student or encounter

Whether you’re collaborating with colleagues or following up on student care, everything is now streamlined into one convenient space.

How to access the Messages tab

  1. Navigate to the left-side panel.

  2. Click on Messages.

  3. You’ll be taken to Threads, where all your conversations are displayed.

This view functions like an inbox, showing all your message activity in one place.

What you’ll see in threads

1. All message conversations

Any message started from:

  • A Student Card

  • An Encounter

…will automatically appear here.

Messages remain fully synced. If you respond from the Messages tab, it will reflect in the related student or encounter record and vice versa.

2. Alerts & notifications

The Messages tab also displays important alerts. If you receive an email alert, you’ll also see that notification here, making it easy to manage everything from one place.

How to respond to a message

  1. Click on a thread.

  2. Type your response.

  3. Click Send.

Your reply will sync automatically across the platform.

Accessing related records from a thread

Each message thread may be connected to a student or encounter.

From within a thread, you can:

  • Click the student’s name (if applicable) → Opens the Student Card

  • Click the encounter name (if applicable) → Opens the Encounter

This makes it easy to review context before replying.

Starting a new message thread

You can now start a message that isn’t tied to a student or encounter.

To start a new message:

  1. Click New in the Messages tab.

  2. Add recipients (e.g., a colleague).

  3. Type your message.

  4. Click Send.

Example use case

A counselor wants to message another counselor about a meeting. Simply:

  • Click New

  • Add your colleague

  • Send your message

No student or encounter required.

Tips & best practices

  • Use Threads as your daily inbox instead of navigating through student cards or encounters to find conversations.

  • Open linked encounters before responding if you need additional context.

  • Use standalone threads for team communication and internal coordination.
