Overview
The Faculty Portal makes it quick and easy to refer a student to the right person — whether you're flagging a concern, reporting an incident, or celebrating a positive moment. Once submitted, the referral goes directly to the designated practitioner and appears on their end with an alert.
This article walks through how to create a referral, fill out the form, and view your referral history.
Why use referrals?
Routes to the right person instantly — no hunting for contact info or sending an email that gets buried
Gives context from the start — the structured form means practitioners have what they need without back-and-forth
Keeps you in the loop — track the status of every referral you've submitted, right from the portal
Celebrates positive moments too — shoutout templates let you highlight great student moments, not just concerns
How to create a referral
From your Faculty Portal, click the Create Referral button.
You'll see a list of referral types available at your school. Select the one that fits your situation — for example, Refer to Counselor, Refer to Dean, or Refer to Nurse.
Click Create Referral under the referral type you've chosen.
Select the student you're making the referral about.
Select the reason for the referral — this determines which form you'll fill out. Depending on how your school has configured things, you may have more than one option (e.g., an Incident Report or a Shoutout).
Fill out the form that appears. Be as specific as you can — the more context you provide, the easier it is for the practitioner to take action quickly.
Click Done to submit. The referral is immediately sent to the designated practitioner, who will receive an alert on their end.
Viewing your referral history
After submitting, you can see a log of all the referrals you've previously submitted on the referrals page.
For each past referral, you can see:
The student's name
The date it was submitted
The referral type and who it was sent to
The status — whether it's waiting to be accepted, has been accepted, or rejected
Click into any past referral to view the full details of what you submitted.
💡 Tip: Keep an eye on the status column — it's a quick way to confirm that a referral has been picked up on the practitioner's end.
Best practices & tips
Be specific in the form — include dates, direct observations, or relevant context. It helps practitioners respond faster and with more confidence.
Check your history before re-referring — a quick look at your past referrals can help you avoid duplicates.
You'll always have a record — everything you submit is saved in your referral history, so you never have to wonder if something went through.
