Overview
The Faculty Portal gives staff and faculty one place to view their rosters and see the student information you choose to share, including allergies, conditions, tags, and documents. It isn't turned on by default, so a Sysadmin needs to enable it and review a few visibility settings first.
This article walks admins through what to consider before enabling the portal and how to turn it on in August Schools.
Why enable the Faculty Portal?
Gives staff and faculty the context they need: rosters, allergies, conditions, tags, and documents in one place
Keeps access simple: teachers reach August with a single click using your existing SSO setup
Puts you in control of visibility: you decide which information appears and which stays internal
What to consider before you enable it
Before you flip the portal on, take a moment to review what teachers will be able to see and how they'll get in.
Decide what's visible. Once the portal is live, staff and faculty can access their rosters and see allergies, conditions, tags, and documents, based on what you've made available. Review these first so nothing sensitive is shared before you're ready.
Hide conditions you want to keep internal. You can prevent specific conditions from appearing on the portal by marking them as internal only. Go to the Conditions page in Settings and mark any condition you'd like to keep private as internal only.
Plan for single sign-on. Once the portal is enabled, the same SSO link you use for parents in Blackbaud, Veracross, or PowerSchool can be added to your SIS's Faculty Portal/Board. This lets staff and faculty access August with one click, so it's worth having that link ready.
How to enable the Faculty Portal
Go to Settings → Instance Settings → Portal Configuration.
Check the Enable faculty portal box.
Once the portal is live, add the same SSO link you use for parents in your SIS (if applicable) to the Faculty Portal so teachers can sign in with one click.
What can staff and faculty see once it's live?
After the portal is enabled, staff and faculty can access their rosters and view:
Allergies
Conditions (excluding any you've marked as internal only)
Dietary restrictions
Tags
Documents with "Person roles" visibility set
A full list of information visible by default can be found here.
