Overview
Sometimes the time on an encounter needs to be adjusted. You might be back charting, or a student checked in earlier than when you opened the encounter. August Schools lets you edit the start time, the finish time, and the date directly on the encounter, with a few shortcuts that make it fast.
This article walks practitioners through how to change the time and date on an encounter.
Why edit encounter times?
Match reality: record the time the student actually checked in, not when you opened the encounter

Changing the start time
Click into the time field on the encounter.
Backspace to clear the existing time, then type the new time (e.g.,
10 a.m.).The field will preview the time as you type so you can confirm it's correct.
Press Enter to apply the new time.
Changing both the date and time
If you need to change the date as well as the time, you can enter them together in the same field.
Click into the time field and start typing the date (e.g.,
9/16).Use the
@symbol, or just keep typing, to add the time (e.g.,9/16 @ 4 p.m.).The field will read back the full date and time so you can confirm it (e.g.,
9/16 at 4:00 p.m.).Press Enter to apply.
Setting the finish time
The finish time automatically auto-calculates in five-minute increments, up to one hour from the start time. You can keep the calculated time or set your own.
You have three options for the finish time:
Pick a time from the list of five-minute increments.
Type
Nfor now and press Enter to use the current time.Manually enter the date and time (e.g.,
9/16 @ 4:32) and press Enter.
💡 Tip: When you use N for now, double-check the date. It will apply the current time, but if you're back charting to an earlier day, you'll want to set the finish time to that day (e.g., 4:10 on 9/16) rather than today.
Saving your changes
For any time or date field, press Enter to read back and save the time you entered. Once you hit Enter, the encounter will hold the updated date and time.
