How to: Tag Students in Bulk from Groups

Apply or remove tags across an entire student group in one step.

When you need to tag a large number of students at once, going student by student takes valuable time you don't have. The group tagging feature lets you apply a tag to every student in a group simultaneously, and removing it is just as easy.

Why use bulk tagging from groups?

  • Save time by tagging multiple students in a single action

  • Keep tags consistent across a group without risk of missing anyone

  • Easily reverse bulk tags — removing from the group removes from all students

  • Great for temporary or event-based groupings (e.g., "Needs updated immunization records")

  • Works with your existing groups — no new setup required

How to use it:

  1. Navigate to Students in the left sidebar

  2. Click on Groups

  3. Select the group you want to tag

  4. Find the Tags field on the group detail page

  5. Type or select the tag you want to apply — it will be added to every student in the group immediately

  6. To remove the tag, click the × next to the tag name in the Tags field — this will remove it from all students in the group

💡 Tip: Double-check the group membership before applying a tag to make sure all the right students are included.

Best Practices:

  • Use descriptive tag names so their purpose is clear to anyone on your team (e.g., "Missing Sports Physical 2026" rather than just "Missing physical")

  • Review group membership before bulk tagging to avoid accidentally tagging students who shouldn't be included

  • Use the Tags field in Groups for temporary tags, and remove them once the task is complete
