How to: AI Generate a Plan

Let AI take the first pass at a learning, accommodation, or behavior plan by pulling data from a student's documents, so you can refine instead of starting from a blank page.

Overview

Building a new plan from scratch takes time. AI Plan Generation gives you a head start by scanning a student's documents, like a neuropsych evaluation or a plan from a previous school, pulling out what's important, and mapping it into your plan template. As a practitioner, you review and refine what it produces rather than starting from an empty page.

Why use AI Plan Generation?

  • Save time on every plan — the bulk of pulling in the data is done for you, so you start from a working draft instead of a blank template

  • Use the documents you already have, generate from a document on the student's card or one you drag in from your desktop

  • Guide the output — add notes to tell the AI exactly what you want it to focus on

  • Stay in control — the AI takes the first pass, but you review, adjust, and add anything else before the plan is final

Part 1: Turn on plan generation (SysAdmin)

Before practitioners can generate plans with AI, your SysAdmin needs to enable the feature.

  1. Go to Settings → Intelligence settings.

  2. Toggle on Enable plan generation.

Once it's on, practitioners will see the new Generate with AI option when creating a plan.

Note: This feature uses August tokens. If you run out of tokens and are looking to add more to your instance, please reach out to [email protected]

Part 2: Generate a plan with AI

  1. Go to New plan.

  2. Choose Generate with AI.
💡 Tip: You'll still see Create from scratch, the blank template you're used to, as your other option.

  3. Select the Student and the Plan type (for example, a learning plan), just as you would normally.

  4. Choose the document(s) you want the AI to use. You can either:

    • Select a document already on the student's card (like a neuropsych evaluation the student has on file), or

    • Drag in a document from your desktop (for example, an evaluation a parent just emailed you).

💡 Tip: If a student has multiple documents on file, select only the ones you want the AI to use.

  5. (Optional) In the Notes field, add any extra context for what you want the AI to do.

    • For example: "For the goals section, create a goal for each of the test results where the student scored below average."

  6. Click Generate, then give it a little time to think.

The AI scans through the document, pulls out what's important, and matches it to the plan template you have in place.

Best practices & tips

  • Neuropsych evaluations are a great starting point — they're a rich source of existing data to turn into a plan.

  • Use prior plans, too — if a student transferred in with a plan from a previous school, you can use it to inform their new plan.

  • Be specific in your notes — the more guidance you give the AI, the closer the first draft will be to what you need.

  • Always review before finalizing — the AI takes the first pass, but the plan is yours to adjust.
