Adding Medication(s) within the Student Card

This article will guide you to Add medication/prescription information to the Student card.

Adding medication(s) to the student's record via the student card is an easy way to keep their medication list up-to-date.

Adding Medications within a Student Card

  1. Search for the student that needs to be modified, with the search bar at the top of the page.

  2. Select your student and open the student card

  3. Click on the Medications tab.

  4. Click on the Add student medication button.

  5. Type in the medication you wish to add in the Medication field.

  6. Select your medication from the resulting list.

    1. Please ensure you verify strength and form for your selected medication.

      Note: If the incorrect medication is selected and saved, it cannot be edited. The medication will need to be deleted and added again.

  7. Optional: Type in the dosage that the prescriber ordered of the medication in Ordered dosage field.

    1. If the ordered dosage differs from the medication strength, please enter the ordered dosage here. If left blank, the dosage will be set to the medication strength.

  8. Optional: if you have a medical provider listed, you may select it from the drop down list in the Medication provider field.

  9. Optional: set the medication start date in the Start date field and/or the medication end date in the End date field.

    1. Set start date if the student starts this medication at a later date. Not setting a start date will add the medication to the MAR right away. If the start date is set, the medication will not show on the MAR until the date selected.

    2. Set end date if the medication will be temporary. The medication will be automatically removed from the student card the day after the provided date.

  10. If the student medication has a time constrained dose, click on the "Add timed dose" button under the Times doses section.

    1. Doing so will display additional fields pertaining to the timed dose.

  11. Important: If the medication needs to be administered by the school clinic, please check the box labeled 'This dose should be administered by the school clinic.'

  12. Enter in the quantity to be administered in the Quantity field.

  13. Enter the unit of the quantity you entered in the Unit of quantity field (e.g., mg)

  14. Enter the time for this dose to be administered in the Required at time field.

    Note:

    1. You must click on the OK button to save your time.

    2. The platform will use this inputted time to created medication administration events for this medication and student if the 'This dose should be administered by the school clinic' checkbox is also selected.

  15. Remove the days that the school clinic is not responsible for dosage administration.

  16. Optional: if you need to add an additional scheduled dosage during the school day, click on the "Add timed dose" button.

  17. Optional: If the student medication also instructions for as-needed dose, click on the "Add as-needed dose" button under the As-needed doses section.

    1. Doing so will display additional fields pertaining to the timed dose.

  18. Optional: Enter in the quantity to be administered as-needed in the Quantity field.

  19. Optional: Enter the unit of the quantity you entered in the Unit of quantity field (e.g., mg)

  20. Optional: Enter the acceptable frequency of as-needed doses of the medication in the Frequency field.

  21. Enter the initial amount of the student medication that you have in clinic in the Inventory quantity field.

    1. Please only enter a numerical value (e.g., 100).

  22. Select the location at which the student medication will be stored by clicking onto the Location field.

    1. Select the appropriate location from the dropdown menu.

  23. Upload any documentation (e.g., prescriptions, medication administration forms) you may have that pertains to the student medication in the file upload field.

  24. Type any additional information on the medication in the Notes field.

  25. Once you have entered all of your dosage requirements for the school day as well as any other pertinent information for this medication, select the "Create" button.
