How to administer OTC medications through an encounter

Stock OTC medications to give as needed to students? No problem! August allows you to stock and administer medications to students as needed. This article will cover the step-by-step directions to administer these medications!

Administering OTC Medication(s)

  1. While documenting an encounter with a student, you determine that administering an OTC medication is your treatment option. Within the Treatment field type or select Medication from the Treatment list.

  2. Select "Clinic medication administration" then hover over the blue Add medication administration option displayed and select your student

  3. A popup for Add medication administration for your student will appear and display your student's OTC permissions:

    1. with Yes selected it will display as:

    3. with specific OTC medications selected it will display with a link:


      When you click on the Show link for OTC permissions you will be provided with a full list of OTC medications, both permitted and not:

  4. You will select your medication from the medication box which will populate with your previously created clinic medications.

  5. Enter the Administered time, Quantity, and Unit of quantity and click the Add administration button to complete.

  6. Your OTC administration will show as complete within the encounter. Complete your encounter as normal
