How to: Override Immunization Compliance

Manually override a student's calculated immunization compliance status, and learn how to remove the override when you no longer need it.

Overview

August Schools automatically calculates each student's immunization compliance based on your state's rules, including shot series and dose intervals. If the calculated status doesn't reflect a student's situation, users with the Nurse role can override it manually.

This article walks nurses through how to override a student's compliance status and how to remove the override later.

Why override compliance?

  • Handle special cases: set the status you know is correct when the calculation doesn't capture a student's situation

  • Stay in control: your override stays in place until you remove it

  • Easy to undo: recalculate at any time to return to the state-rule-based status

Part 1: Override a student's compliance

💡 Tip: You need the Nurse role to override compliance. If you don't see the option, check with your school's Sysadmin.

  1. Open the immunization grid in either of these ways:

    • Go to the Students page and select Immunizations.

    • Open a student's Card, select Immunizations, and click Edit immunization grid.

  2. Click the Compliance status at the top of the grid.

  3. Select the compliance status you would like to override to.

The student's compliance status updates right away.

Important: overrides are not automatically updated

Once you override a student's compliance, that status will not change when new information comes into the system. This includes:

  • Updated shot dates

  • Immunization registry connections

  • Waivers

Your override stays in place until you remove it.

Part 2: Remove a compliance override

  1. Open the student's immunization grid using either method from Part 1.

  2. Hover over the three dots in the upper right-hand corner.

  3. Click Recalculate status.

August Schools will look at the student's shot dates again and recalculate compliance against your state's rules, if you have any.

Best practices & tips

  • Use overrides sparingly: because they don't update automatically, review them periodically to make sure they're still accurate.

  • Recalculate after new records arrive: if a student's shot dates, registry data, or waivers have changed, recalculating gives you a fresh status based on your state's rules.
