Over the past year, we've rolled out a lot of updates to make August Schools faster, smarter, and easier to use, and most of them started with feedback from the schools who use the platform every day.
July 2026
Admins can now customize how each role's encounters are shared across your school, including who can see full encounter details and who gets limited visibility (title and date only, no confidential notes).
June 2026
Parents can now view their child's documents directly in the family portal, and for document types you configure, upload new versions (like a renewed annual physical). New uploads come in as requests for your nurse to review and approve, so your team always has the most up-to-date documents.
Set a duration on any file tag and expiration dates will fill in automatically when a "dated at" date is entered, no extra clicks. You can apply this retroactively to existing documents too, so your records are always up to date.
Need to move all of a departing practitioner's encounters to someone new? Filter down to their encounters on the Encounters > History page, select all, and reassign in bulk, adding the new practitioner and removing the old one all at once.
May 2026
Teachers, coaches, and staff can now refer students directly to the right practitioner — counselor, nurse, dean, athletic trainer, and more — right from the Faculty Portal. Because the best outcomes for students happen when the right people are working together, and that starts with making sure nothing gets missed. Referrals are form-based, tracked from submission through resolution, and fully secure within August. No more scattered Google Forms or hallway conversations that get forgotten. Every observation, every concern, every win, routed to the right person, every time.
Note: This is an add-on feature, please reach out to [email protected] if you are interested in using referrals.
Speech to text in long form text fields
You can now transcribe speech directly into long-form text fields, no typing required. Simply click the microphone icon in any long-form field and start speaking. We'll transcribe your words in real time!
You can now drag and drop the tabs on a student card into whatever order works best for you. Your preferred tab order saves automatically and applies across all students, without affecting any other staff members' views.
When sending a form request batch, you can now check "Schedule for later?" to choose a future date and time for it to go out automatically. Set it and forget it.
You can now add a tag to all students in a group at once from the Groups page, no more tagging students one by one. Removing the tag from the group removes it from all students in that group too.
Pre-populate forms from previous submissions
You can now pre-populate forms with responses from previous submissions!
Once this is toggled on, parents who haven’t started their forms yet will see their previous submission automatically pre-filled, even if the packet has already been sent.
Note: This does not apply to schools sending enrollment through August for the first time.
April 2026
New merge fields in form templates
We’ve added new merge fields to make form templates even more personalized. When you start typing the curly bracket, you'll see the following new merge fields appear:
Date of birth
Boarding/Day status
Gender
Graduation year
Grade level
International status
More flexible alert recipients
When configuring an alert, Managers and SysAdmins can now choose an entire role or a specific user as the recipient.
You’ll also notice that alert configuration has moved from Instance settings to Alerts → Configure , so everything alert-related is now in one place.
You'll see a new Alerts page on the left side navigation where you can view every alert sent from the platform, including the recipient, send status, date/time, subject line, alert type, and description.
You can also filter the table to quickly find a specific alert and confirm whether it was sent, delivered, or failed to send by hovering over the dot next to the recipient name.
You’ll now see a mini map on wide tables that lets you scroll horizontally using your mouse. This is especially helpful for users who don’t have a trackpad or horizontal scrolling on their mouse.
Prefer not to use it? Each user can turn it off by going to Settings → User settings . This will only turn the mini map off for you and won't affect any other users on your team.
No more clicking through tabs on the student card to piece things together. You’ll now see a clear, concise summary of each student that includes:
Relevant health and wellbeing information
Recent encounters
Key notes and important context
A complexity level (Low, Medium, High)
It’s everything you need to understand about a student at a glance, right when you open their card.
To start using student summaries, ask your SysAdmin to toggle this feature on in Settings > Instance settings > Intelligence.
Reviewing enrollment packets just got a whole lot quicker. Each packet now includes a generated summary that highlights:
The most important information from the packet
A complexity level (Low, Medium, High) to help you prioritize your review
Whether you’re triaging or diving deep into a complex packet, you’ll know exactly where to focus your time.
To start using packet summaries, ask your SysAdmin to toggle this feature on in Settings > Instance settings > Intelligence.
Sticky Notes are a simple but powerful way to keep your team aligned without needing meetings, emails, or separate documentation. Whether you’re flagging something important, leaving a quick update, or setting a personal reminder, Sticky Notes ensure key information is always visible, right where you need it most: the student card.
This feature is especially helpful for:
Sharing quick updates across teams
Highlighting important student context
Keeping personal reminders without cluttering records
Reducing back-and-forth communication
We have a few exciting updates to how you manage Conditions in August, giving you more flexibility, better organization, and a little extra control behind the scenes.
Here’s what’s new:
Add your own Conditions
Organize with folders
Reorder as you like
Mark conditions as internal
March 2026
Get a real-time snapshot of enrollment progress across your school. Instantly see who hasn’t started, who’s in progress, who’s fully submitted, and who’s been accepted, with the ability to drill in and take action fast.
Combine multiple uploaded files into a single document right inside Enrollment Review. This is especially helpful when families upload multi-page records as separate photos or files, saving you time on the cleanup.
Filter Enrollment Review to focus on a single form type, or just a couple at once, so you can move through similar submissions faster using Approve and Review Next.
Enrollment status tags in the faculty portal
Enrollment status tags are now visible in the Faculty Portal to make it easier for faculty helping with summer follow-up to see where each student stands at a glance.
You now have the ability to edit forms before they’ve been submitted, making it easier to support families, fix issues early, and keep enrollment moving.
Form titles and descriptions can now pull in dynamic information automatically, giving you more flexibility to personalize forms and make instructions clearer for families.
Approve all forms button
Reviewing complete packets just got faster. With the new Approve all forms button, you can approve everything in one click when a packet is ready to go.
Option to use chosen name on forms and portal
Forms and portal views now have the option to use a student's chosen name instead of their first name for a more inclusive enrollment experience.
To make this change, your SysAdmin can go to Settings > Instance settings > Portal configuration > Student first-name display
RoboNurse has been upgraded for a smoother and more accurate experience. It can now decipher a wide variety of immunization record formats with a higher accuracy rate than ever before.
Edit immunization grid right from enrollment review
The Edit Immunization Grid button is now available directly in Enrollment Review when a submission includes an immunization file tag, so nurses can jump straight into updates without extra clicks.
February 2026
We heard you loud and clear: reviewing hundreds of “No allergies,” “No medications,” and “No conditions” forms is not a good use of time.
Now, if a parent indicates their child has no allergies, no medications, or no conditions , those health forms will get automatically approved.
Before, in order to show certain forms in a packet based on graduation year or a parent's previous form response, you had to set up a complex query. Now, you can automatically trigger supplemental forms with just a couple clicks.
You can now add conditional questions to your forms so additional questions only appear when they’re relevant!
The new Messages tab brings all message threads and alerts into one centralized view. You can respond directly, jump to the related student or encounter for context, and start new conversations with colleagues, all from a single place.
You can now set a primary brand color in August to create a more consistent, school-branded experience for families and faculty. The selected color is automatically applied to emails and the top navigation bar in the Portal, no additional setup required.
January 2026
The new Physical status column on the Student Roster gives you a real-time view of where each student stands with their annual physical.
You’ll instantly know who’s compliant, expiring soon, or missing docs, and you can filter and build dynamic groups right from the list to follow up in bulk.
Have a new allergy to track? Your SysAdmin can now add new allergens directly from the Settings >Instance settings > Allergies tab. This gives your team more flexibility to add and organize allergens to ensure consistency and meet the needs of your students.
Shared emergency exports within nurse role
Your SysAdmin can now set emergency exports to be visible among those who have the nurse role. Currently, emergency exports are only visible to the user who creates that export, but if your team decides to toggle this setting on, emergency exports created by anyone with the nurse role will be visible to anyone else with the nurse role.
Log users out after inactivity
To help keep student health info secure, SysAdmins can now set an auto-logout time that automatically signs users out after a period of inactivity. This helps prevent sensitive data from being left open on shared or unattended devices.
December 2025
Here’s how it works:
Create an encounter just like you normally do.
Click “ View all fields ” under the subject's name.
Click to select recipients.
Select the relevant faculty or guardian (pulled in from your SIS).
Decide if you want to notify them via email with a magic link that takes them right to the encounter.
November 2025
We’re excited to introduce the new Procedures feature , designed to make documenting and tracking athlete treatments easier and more efficient than ever.
With this update, you can now:
Streamline treatment tracking – see all your injured Athletes in one place.
Maintain cleaner analytics – view a clear record of ongoing treatments per athlete.
Schedule recurring treatments – set up automated encounters for ongoing care.
Link conditions and medications – easily associate treatments with injuries and prescriptions.
We’ve made important updates to the Medication Administration page to help you work more efficiently.
Smarter filtering - Quickly locate the information you need with new filtering options.
New dispensing option - You can now mark a medication as dispensed (instead of administered). Inventory will still decrease by the correct quantity.
Bulk actions - Save time and improve documentation by administering, dispensing, or skipping multiple records at once, perfect for handling field trips, holiday breaks, or other group scenarios.
Rename document file names
You can now rename document file names directly within the platform, no need to download and re-upload.
Duplicate form templates
You can now duplicate form templates with a single click. Quickly create new forms based on existing templates to save time and maintain consistency across your forms.
Centralized alerts tab - Access all alerts under Settings → Instant Settings → Alerts.
Pre-built alerts - We've added default, pre-built alerts so you can easily edit, enable, or disable these.
New form request-based alerts - We’ve added alerts directly into form requests so you can customize reminders as you send out a form request batch.
October 2025
You can now create archiving rules based on a document’s uploaded date, dated-at date, or expiration date. Depending on your needs, you can either:
Set a one-time rule to archive all documents created before a specific date, or
Configure an ongoing rule to automatically archive documents a set amount of time after their expiration date.
August 2025
Some forms require signatures from more than one parent or guardian. With the new Multi-signature answer type, each form recipient for a student will have their own signature field when completing their form, so you can collect all required signatures in one go.
Undo button for medication administrations
Whether a med was logged for the wrong student or marked before it was actually given, you can now undo the med administration with a single click. The record will undo, and the med inventory will be automatically restored to its previous amount.
BMI percentile calculator
The BMI screening now does the math for you! Just enter the student’s height and weight, and it'll automatically calculate their BMI percentile using age- and sex-specific standards.
New filters in enrollment review
You can now filter packets by Section and Grade level in the Enrollment > Review tab. No more scrolling through the full list to find your students, now you can easily check the submission status of different sports teams or divide up enrollment review amongst your team based on grade.
Filter by completed packets and sort by completion date
Quickly check which packets have been completed by filtering using the new Packet completed filter and then sort using the new Packet completed at column to see which packets were completed earliest or most recently.
