How to: Add Non-Formulary Medication(s)
Updated over a week ago

Users in the August Schools platform that have the Nurse and Manager roles or Nurse and SysAdmin roles can add non-formulary medications to the platform! This article walks through how to add a new medication.

Reminder: Custom medications should only be created when a medication is not listed in the National Library of Medicine’s RxNav database and thus unavailable in the August Schools platform (e.g., compounded medications, vitamins, formulas, and foreign medications as examples).

Adding Non-Formulary Medication(s)

  1. Select Settings on the left-hand menu.

  2. Under Medication Settings, click the "Create custom medication" button.

  3. Enter the medication information in the following fields (*indicates required field):

    1. *Name: the name of the medication

    2. Generic: the generic name or equivalent (if brand name was used)

    3. *Strength: the amount of drug in the dosage form or a unit of the dosage form (e.g. 500 mg capsule, 250 mg/5 mL suspension)

    4. *Form: the form the medication was provided

    5. *Route: the way the dosage form is given (oral, chewable, nasal, transdermal, etc.)

  4. Once the required information has been entered, click "Confirm" and the medication is now available to add to student cards, clinic inventory, etc.
